MEMORIES OF A JAZZ SINGER

THE CITY'S EYES
Time isn't always measured in moments.
It is sometimes measured through the eyes
that capture the soul, tap on the heart,
measured through midnight sounds
on city sidewalks.
-A single note dropping through the silence
extracting jazz from the blue -
when whispered pleasures are the
edges of distant bridges
caught in glittering lights,
in step with the rhythm of my soul.
And if time must fall,
turning warm days into cool nights,
distilling the essence of San Francisco -
still my heart will beat
with my memory of this city's eyes
singing through a jazzy night,
flipped off the lip of a horn
into the fog.
